We recently sat down with our CEO, Filipe Barbosa, for a quick Q&A about everything Gelatissimo!
Why did you join the Gelatissimo brand?
I loved the idea of joining a brand that, at its core, is based on the idea of creating a place for families and friends to share moments together, gift wrapped in one of my favourite things – gelato. I got involved with Gelatissimo two weeks before the first store opened back in 2002 and have loved seeing the brand evolve over the last 20 years.
What was a challenge you faced in the business and how did you resolve it?
When we first started out we used to produce gelato centrally and then distribute the product into stores. However we quickly recognised that the best gelato is made fresh! So in 2005 we set out converting all our stores to produce gelato fresh in store. This was a great step forward that not only meant our customers got to experience a better product, it also brought our store teams closer to the roots of the product.
Today we wouldn’t do it any other way.
Why do you think customers love Gelatissimo?
I think it’s a brand that has grown up with many of them. I believe it’s our focus on delivering the best quality product that keeps them loving us.
Today Gelatissimo is a place where customers can find a bit of pure happiness. A getaway from the everyday routine that has a wide range of choices to cater for everyone.
What’s one piece of advice you give to every new franchisee?
No one will love your business more than you will.
Spend time in store and understand your local customers and in doing so ingrain yourself as a part of the local community.
Commit to being the best retailer you can be and focus on creating great customer experiences that create brand ambassadors.
What’s your favourite flavour of gelato and why?
At the risk of sounding boring, I love chocolate… except the fake one (the white stuff that pretends to be chocolate – White Chocolate). I also love Passionfruit sorbet.
